The VCCA Newsletter regularly includes information about safety, neighborhood watch, and crime prevention. We’ve pulled some helpful tips below and you can find more information here in the archives.
- This website has a short video that shows how to protect your garage door from being opened from the outside.
- To help prevent a break-in, always set the alarm
- Write down serial numbers, models, and descriptions of all your household items
- Take pictures of jewelry to identify them if they are stolen
- Have dead bolt locks installed on entry doors with keys needed both inside and out
- Always keep your eyes open: police often catch a criminal because an alert neighbor witnesses the crime or suspicious activity and calls HPD
- Look through the peephole when your doorbell rings & ask who it is before opening the door
- Have a home survey done: officers will come to your house & show you ways to lessen the chance of your home being burglarized
- HPD offers Alert Slips: a special request for increased patrols around homes for a prowler, speeding vehicle, excessive burglaries and thefts, being on vacation, or for reasons causing them concern in the “other” box
- The Vermont Commons Constable Patrol program is an independent entity organized by neighbors within Vermont Commons. For more information, click here.
