Text Box: their homes Ed gave them a space on his lawn and grabbed up the garden hose until the fire truck arrived. He is a man of action and good deeds, a wealth of information or should I say a gold mine.
Text Box: A few days ago I stumbled onto a hidden gold mine, I’m referring to Ed Quilter, one of our VCCA neighbors, born in Houston 85 years ago to parents who lived at 2010 Indiana. From what Ed told us, his active childhood included happily riding his horse (which was stabled across the street from his home) downtown to the Rice Hotel to have a coke and more excitedly witnessing a real police/gangster shoot out with Public Enemy Raymond Hamilton who was trapped in a two story brick house on the northwest corner of Huldy @ Welch (now painted turquoise) .In fact the then ten year old Ed and some of his neighboring friends were even allowed to visit the Hyde Park Funeral Home to view the once dangerous gangster laid Text Box: to rest. Living here all his life, Ed has incredible memories to share of our now quiet & relaxed community. He joined the Merchant Marines at eighteen and sailed on three different ships for just as many years. Returning to the neighborhood after the war Ed married the young Mary Bouvet in 1954 and moved into their new home at 2005 Brun where he presently resides. Ed is still a handsome gentleman brimming with life and good humor who regularly visits his many friends who have left our neighborhood to live in retirement homes and occasionally holds court on his own front yard. Once when the apartment bldg. next to him caught fire and all the tenants had to evacuate Text Box: Grab all the fun at the May 5th Houston Art Car Parade, 1:00-3:00 pm on Allen Parkway near Waugh Dr. It’s the largest Art Car Parade around as well as fantastic, fun and free! It’s an annual neighborhood event for the entire family. Walk, bike, or drive down. Bring a hat and water bottle. Enjoy
